Sometimes birth doesn’t go as “planned”. But after a lot of blood, sweat & tears, sweet baby Jase still arrived in his own perfect timing, in his own way.
(Please read their birth story by clicking “Read full post” below before watching their video. **As always, this video is completely modest.**)
Katie’s doctor was concerned about Jase’s head size, so at 39 weeks they checked in for an induction. I met them at the hospital that evening while they got settled. Katie’s body is definitely sensitive to needles and such, as she started getting sick immediately after they started her on just a bag of fluids.
Overnight, she received two rounds of Cervadil (to soften her cervix and hopefully jumpstart labor), started receiving Pitocin the following morning at 5:45am, got the epidural right about noon, and her water broke on its own shortly after. I get a text from JD: “Water broke. Prob be here asap.”
I started rushing over there, and called him on my way, but slowed down as soon as he said she was still only dilated to 2cm.
The day slowly went by, as their family members came in and out to visit with them, play cards, watch football, and encourage them that Jase would be here soon!
My husband and daughter met me for dinner across the street from the hospital when she was still dilated around 5cm, and OF COURSE as soon as our food came, I get a text that she is 8cm dilated! We started eating quickly, and within 10-15 minutes, I get another text that she’s complete!
At 9:10pm, those “pushing hormones” started to kick in, and Katie got very emotional and shaky. But she quickly overcame them, got down to business, and started pushing. And pushing. Aaaaaand kept on pushing.
That momma pushed little Jase down so far, we got to see that he had a nice head of beautiful dark blond hair.
And then he just couldn’t come any further.
After 2 1/2 hours, the doctor suggested that Jase needed to come out a different way. It was a heartbreaking moment for Katie, as she had tried soooo very hard to get him out on her own, and had wanted to avoid the c section at all costs.
She spent another 30 minutes trying her very best to push him past that pelvic bone, but sadly he just wouldn’t slip under it.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t allowed into the operating room, but their FANTASTIC nurse Krista took my camera in on auto mode and I told her to just keep shooting.I’m so glad they have some wonderful photos of when Jase first arrived!
I waited outside the OR with their families, and took some video and photos on my backup camera while I waited for my other one to come back out.
After 30 hours of going without food, 12 hours of hard labor, and 3 hours of pushing, perfect little 7 lb 5 oz Jase Daniel was born at 12:40am via c section.
Katie was so incredibly exhausted and out of it from the drugs in the OR, JD stayed with her while the nurse brought new baby Jase out to meet the family and head into recovery.
I returned the following day once Katie had rested and recovered, and got to capture the beautiful new bond they had started to form. What a perfect, loving little family they are, and I am so thankful to have been a small part of Jase’s story!
